Elena Miro shunned from London Fashion week
Designer Elena Miro who has opened London Fashion week for the last 5 years was excluded from this years show for what Mario Boselli ( Head of the National Chamber for Italian Fashion) states “”Some labels just weren’t in line with what ready-to-wear week should be. We wanted to champion the values of creativity to reaffirm Milan’s role in the world.”
This is interesting considering that her show was based around what she says was “harking to the 1950s when the beauty of women, the round shapes and soft bodies were de rigueur,”. Miro channeled the curves of today’s plus size woman to convey a message through fashion in her runway show. Despite her exclusion from the official London Fashion Week runways her show went on showcasing her S/S 2011 collection to a sold out room.
Check out the collection below, Elena Miro has utilized some beautiful solid whites, grey’s, and beige’s which she shares are often times colors that are shied away from, she also captures the beauty of an a-line skirt like no other, and I believe that London Fashion Week did not embrace the plus size market but little do they know that they made a mark possibly for other designers to push the envelope.
